Shadow

Name: Shadow
Sex: Male
Age: 1 year
Breed: Tuxedo Pittie
Weight: 52 lbs.
Temperment: Dogs - Yes!
Neutered: Yes!
Available for Fostering: Yes!
Available for Adoption: Yes!

You'd expect a dog named "Shadow" to be gloomy and dark. In that case, you'll want to change Shadow's name as soon as you save and adopt him.

This 1-year-old American Pit Bull Terrier mix is like sunshine, cheery and bright. He loves to play, though he must learn that a leash is not a tug-of-war rope. Your teaching him leash manners and your other commands would do him a world of good and bond you together for the rest of his life. He's very friendly with other dogs and wants to play with them.

And of course, he's friendly with people. However, he's a cry baby. When a volunteer tied him up to keep him still and photograph him, he cried and cried to be treated so cruelly -- to sit for five minutes and not be able to play. No more than a pup, Shadow's life is on the line. If no kind stranger comes forth to adopt him, tomorrow he won't even be a shadow.

IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO FOSTER OR ADOPT SHADOW TO SAVE HIS LIFE, EMAIL EMILY@EMILYGEAR.COM IMMEDIATELY. There is no time to delay. Please include in your message the answer to the following questions:

• Full name
• Phone number
• Your neighborhood or city
• Do you have pit experience?
• Are there other animals or children in the home?

Delilah - Please help!

Name: Delilah
Sex: Female
Age: 4 years
Breed: Hound
Weight: 50 lbs.
Temperment: Calm, Cats/Dogs/Kids - Yes!
Spayed: Yes!
Available for Fostering: Yes!
Available for Adoption: Yes!

Lovely Delilah led a hard life. At four years old, until recently, she spent every moment chained inside a chicken-wire fenced muddy, cesspool of a run with 10 of her brothers and sisters behind the home of a SC backyard breeder.

She is so calm, and would be an ideal family dog around children and other pets. She loves other dogs and the dog park, but REALLY loves the one-on-one attention of her human companions. Sweet Delilah is a perfect-sized dog, with a temperament to match. Her pictures don't quite do her beautiful ivory face justice.

A true princess of a dog, Delilah really needs to find her furever home now. Her foster has kept her for a month, and loves her very much-- and so she would like to see her move on to her furever family ASAP. Finding a dog so sweet and gentle doesn't happen every day--she would be the ideal pet for a family with children, older people who want devoted companionship, and really, anyone else.

Delilah is sensitive and shy, however and will need someone who is patient and allows her a period of adjustment in her new home. I promise you, it will be worth it!

Delilah is spayed, up-to-date on shots, heartworm negative and healthy. She is an absolute, sweet dream.

Please email emily@emilygear.com TODAY to meet her-- she won't be available much longer!

Dama

Name: Dama
Sex: Female
Age: 8 years
Breed: Rottweiler
Spayed: Yes!
Available for Fostering: Yes!
Available for Adoption: Yes!

Dama, is an adult Rottweiler about 8 years of age who we saved from death row at a high kill shelter. She was on the euthanasia list and we placed her in temporary foster care.

Dama is done with her active dog life. She is now in retirement and looking for a place to live out her golden years. We compare her to some older people that just want peace and serenity - no crazy activities like other animals or kids, otherwise she will get grumpy. She's lived out her active dog years romping and playing and now we just want to find her a home where she can be set out to pasture to enjoy a tranquil and relaxing life. Dama is spayed, vaccinated, de-wormed, heartworm negative, microchipped and full of love....all this is missing for this fine gal is a place for her to lay her head and enjoy her golden years.

To learn about adopting Dama, please call 917-543-6193.

Philly

Name: Philly
Sex: Female
Age: 2/3 years
Breed: Red-nose pittie
Weight: 50 lbs.
Temperment: Good with some dogs, Kids - Yes!, Cats - Unknown
Spayed: No, possibly pregnant
Available for Fostering: Yes!
Available for Adoption: Yes!

Sweet Dog! Help Philly LIVE! Her time is up at the shelter: she was give a brief time reprive but will be euthanized unless a home (or rescue) does not come through asap! Her previous owner, who surrendered her to the kill shelter because of "no
more time to care for her," told the staff that Philly is: Housetrained; a very loving and affectionate animal, very playful. Loves to play with children and be pet. Gets along with other dogs.

What he did not have to tell us as we could see for ourselves, is that he used Philly as a throwaway mom, having her have litter after litter of puppies in the short 2-3 years of her life; even now, the vets could not confirm if she is or isn't pregnant, as she seems very overweight and full.

Volunteers found Philly lovely, and she got along with most dogs at the shelter, while she instinctively did not like some others and barked, although she obeys and stops barking if told firmly: could it be a behavior related to the fact that she IS indeed pregnant?

Philly is going to be euthanized soon, unless a trusty dog-savvy home is found to take her in and care for her IMMEDIATELY or a RESCUE steps up to save her...If you can SAVE PHILLY by ADOPTING OR FOSTERING please e-mail back to this post and leave your full contact info including answers to the following questions:

1. Do you currently have dogs and if so, pls describe i.e breed, sex, age, spayed/neutered?
2. Have you had experience with pitbulls or bully breeds?
3. Do you have any kids or cats?
3. What do you do for a living?
4. Do you live in an apt or house? Does your landlord allow pitbulls/mixes?
5. Can you provide us with (2) non-family references with ph#s?

PLS SERIOUS INQUIRIES ONLY and ONLY THOSE THAT ANSWER THE ABOVE QUESTIONS will CONTACTED THANK YOU!!

Silver

Age: 4 years
Breed: Blue-nose pittie
Weight: 45 lbs.
Temperment: Good with Dogs, Cats/Kids - Unknown

Available for Fostering: Yes!
Available for Adoption: Yes!

This beautiful, blue-nosed boy was scheduled to go down this AM and we were able to get him another day!!.. PLS SAVE HIM BY committing to ADOPTING/FOSTERING!

Silver is one handsome dog! And even though he's stressed to find himself at the shelter (he arrived as a stray), he is always friendly. The woman who brought him to the shelter claimed the owner abandoned the dog with her. But what kind of care did Silver receive? He needs a bath, but even though his coat is a bit dirty, he is still a good looking dog. He actually poses for the camera. He walks nicely on a leash, is calm and basically ignored dogs he's met at the Shelter.

Unfortunately we don't know how he is with cats... but he seems to be good with all the humans he meets big and small. He weighs 43 pounds and is a bit on the skinny side but once he fattens up he will be one gorgeous dog!

If you can help us by committing to ADOPTING/FOSTERING this Gorgeous boy.. pls respond back to this post for an application or call #917-543-6193 and leave your call back info. Only Serious Inquiries please- Thank you!

*Pls note this dog is located in the metropolitan NYC area - transport can be arranged provided certain criteria is met - also a reasonable adoption donation fee will be requested to cover shots, neuter surgery & microchip.

Sammi - Help!

Name: Sammi
Sex: Female
Age: 1 years
Breed: Red Nose Pittie
Weight: 60 lbs.
Temperment: No concern, Cats - Probably Not
Spayed: Yes!
Available for Fostering: Yes!
Available for Adoption: Yes!

HELP!! TIME IS RUNNING OUT!! THE FOSTER PARENTS ARE MOVING ON 10/31 and SAMMI CAN'T GO WITH THEM SO WE MUST FIND HER A HOME BY THE END OF THIS MONTH or she may have to be brought back to shelter!!

Saved from death row at a NY Shelter, Sammi is a happy go lucky sweet and sassy fun loving 1 yr old female rednose pit. She's a short, stocky, strong girl and loves to play with toys...she has energy but she is not hyper and has a wonderful mild loving disposition - she passed her temperment test with all "A's" and seems to be good with all the dogs big and small.

She is full of hugs and kisses for everyone she meets and we think she would make the perfect family dog. She has been with a 5 yr old and was fine but because of her strength (unknown to her), we think it would be better if she was with older kids! She's with a couple of cats and will take them on if they challenge her so it's probably best if she went to a cat-free home. She's a stocky girl weighing around 60 lbs and could stand to lose a couple of pounds. She's just a big mush-mellow and just wants to hang out on the couch with you!! Won't you give her the loving permanent home she deserves?

Please e-mail back to this post if you are interested in adopting/meeting Sammi and/or call #917-543-6193 and leave your full contact info... thank you!

*PLS NOTE... there will be an adoption donation fee requested to cover shots, spay surgery & microchip - also this dog is located in the NYC Metropolitan area... transport can be arranged provided certain criteria is met*

Sasha the "Black Pearl"

Name: Sasha
Sex: Female
Age: 2 years
Breed: Lab/Pittie Mix
Weight: 55 lbs.
Temperment: No concern
Spayed: Yes!
Available for Adoption: Yes!

Poor Sasha. She has been in several foster homes and everyone adores her but we are still looking for the right "furever" home and we MUST FIND SASHA A HOME ASAP!!!

Sasha is a beautiful 2 yr old, 55lb spayed female black lab/pit mix who is a truly "extra-special" dog. She is a sweet calm loving "no concern" gorgeous "black pearl" of a dog. She is good with other dogs, humans of all ages and does not have any behavior issues. Calm in the house, no destructiveness, no separation anxiety, no incessant barking. She's easy on the leash once she knows her surroundings, knows basic commands and is just full of love and cuddles.

Her current foster loves to take her jogging and on long hikes but at home...she loves to curl up on the couch and bed with you but will curl up on the floor on your feet if you tell her to. We've tested her with cats and she is "overly-curious" about them but we think she can be trained to leave them alone if you are able & willing... That is her only drawback otherwise.

SHE IS A PERFECT DOG and LOYAL COMPANION...Come and meet her today!

If you would like to ADOPT this sweet gorgeous gal pls respond to this post asap and leave a message with your full contact info..or call #917-543-6193 and leave your callback #s. Only Serious Inquiries please. There will be a reasonable adoption donation fee requested.

THANK YOU!!

Baron - Please Help Me Be a Brave Boy!

Name: Baron
Sex: Male
Age: 2 years
Breed: Chocolate/Red Pittie Mix
Weight: 60 lbs.
Temperment: Good with Small, Female Dogs, Cats - Unknown, Kids - 12+
Neutered: Yes!
Available for Fostering: Yes!
Available for Adoption: Yes!

Baron is a gorgeous, 2 yr old neutered, 60 lb M Pit Mix who is the unfortunate victim of a landlord issue. His current owner can't afford to live anywhere else and the landlord wants Baron out. Baron was rescued from the NYC Kill shelter and his owner does not want to bring him back to the shelter by any means, but he must get him a new home by OCT 31!!!

Baron is a sweet loving boy, but he is very shy and a "scaredy" dog and gets nervous around strangers - people and dogs. He bonds very quickly once he gets to know you but sometimes he gets "overprotective" and reactive with other dogs on the street. His owner was working with him to give Baron the confidence he needs to be a well balanced, socialized dog so Baron will need someone who has had EXPERIENCE WITH BULLY BREEDS or someone who is willing to continue with a training program to make Baron a confident, self-assured, well socialized and balanced dog.

He appears to get along with "female" dogs and dogs that are smaller than him; however he would be best as an "only dog" at first or with a female dog... unfortunately he hasn't been tested with cats and we don't feel he should be with small children... only older kids 12+ yrs.

He is completely housebroken and is very obedient - He knows all the basic commands is very eager & quick to learn... he just needs help building his confidence... but is so eager to please so if your looking for that loyal, best firend forever then Baron is the boy for you!!

PLS e-mail back to this post or call #917-543-6193 if you are interested in meeting BARON ASAP!!!

*This dog is located in the metropolitan NYC area ... transport can be arranged provided certain criteria is met*

If you can't adopt/foster but would like to help out Baron & dogs in need by making a donation to In Our Hands Rescue - you can do so by going to this link http://inourhandsrescue.chipin.com/help-iohr-save-a-last-chance-shelter-dog

Coba - I Need a Furever Home!

Name: Coba
Sex: Male
Age: 1.5 years
Breed: Black, White & Tan Pittie Mix, Bernese Mountain Dog (?)
Weight: 50 lbs.
Temperment: Good with Larger Dogs, Cats - No, Kids - 10+
Neutered: Yes!
Available for Fostering: Yes!
Available for Adoption: Yes!

Young and Handsome Coba is currently being kenneled in a boarding facility in Montgomery, NY and we urgently need to get him out!!! Can you open your heart and home to him?

Coba is a GORGEOUS WUGGIE of a neutered 1 year old American Staffordshire/Pit Bull mix who was saved off of Death Row from the high kill shelter in NYC. His coloring is so unique... he looks like he may have part Bernese Mountain Dog in him! He was adopted by a family in Stratsburg, NY but he did not get along with their cat and unfortunately had to go.

He URGENTLY needs a new home with a big yard to play in and because of his exhuberant energy should not be placed with young children or smaller animals. He is good with bigger dogs and loves all humans but will need a strong pack leader, daily exercise, firm discipline and a consistent routine. He knows basic obedience commands but could use more training. He has the potential to be a great wonderful family dog, but just needs some help. We think he would be great with another dog of the same age so they can burn each others energy or with a family with older kids or someone who wants an exercise partner....either or he will make a wonderful loyal companion to whomever adopts him!

If you can adopt/foster Coba, please e-mail back to this post or call #917-543-6193 and leave your callback info so we can set up a meeting asap!

*Depending on where you live, transport can be arranged provided certain criteria is met - also a reasonable adoption donation fee will be requested to cover shots & microchip.

If you can't adopt/foster Coba but still want to help...please consider making a donation to In Our Hands Rescue - you can do so by going to this link http://inourhandsrescue.chipin.com/help-iohr-save-a-last-chance-shelter-dog

Brownie

Name: Brownie
Sex: Female
Age: 4/5 years
Breed: Red Brindle Pittie
Weight: 35 lbs.
Temperment: Good with Dogs, Cats/Kids unknown
Spayed: Yes!
Available for Fostering: Yes!
Available for Adoption: Yes!

This sweet, petite pit girl only has until Thurs, 10/23! - Pls SAVE HER by committing to adopting/fostering her TODAY!

On 10/16/08, someone dropped off approx 4/5 yr old Brownie at a police precinct. He claimed she was a stray. This little girl (she weighs only 35 pounds) is very stressed and scared, and will tuck her tail under her belly. It takes a little while to break the ice when a stranger meets Brownie, but she sees you mean her no harm, and then she sits tightly against you ... at peace ... contemplating her surroundings.

She has a muscular body, and with her cropped ears, she may look fierce, but she's not. She's probably been used for breeding and, having served her purpose, was let loose on the street. Although she pulls a bit on the leash when you walk her,she appears to be housetrained. She seems a little shy around other dogs so we think she'll be ok with other dogs.

If you can COMMIT to adopting/fostering Brownie, pls e-mail back to this post with your callback info or call #917-543-6193 ASAP so we can set up a meeting.

*Please note this dog is located in the Metropolitan NYC area - transport can be arranged provided certain criteria is met - also , a reasonable adoption/donation fee will be requested to cover shots, spay surgery and microchip.

Josie - I Need a Furever Home!

Name: Josie
Sex: Female
Age: 3 years
Breed: Boxer/AmStaff Mix
Weight: 65 lbs.
Temperment: Good with Kids, Dogs, Cats
Spayed: Yes!
Available for Fostering: Yes!
Available for Adoption: Yes!

Josie is a GORGEOUS 3-year old female, red/brown and white Boxer/AmStaff mix that weighs approx 65 lbs. She was rescued from the city shelter after being found tied to a gate with a heavy metal chain. She was a recent mother; she was still lactating. We call her a throwaway mom: used to produce puppies to be sold and then when her usefulness is done, abandoned to the streets. And she arrived at the shelter emaciated because the owner didn't even feed her properly.

Despite this terrible treatment, Josie is well socialized. She is low key, walks politely on a leash, is housetrained, crate trained and good with dogs she's been around so far. She's curious about cats but once she gets to know them is ok with them. She's a friendly girl and loves to be being petted and "leans" into you for reassurance. She's currently in a foster home in the Bronx, NY with a young child - 5 yrs old and is very good with her. She's a WONDERFUL PERFECT FAMILY DOG!...but she's a bit large for a city apt... so we are looking to find her a home with a family with a yard.

If you want meet or adopt Josie, please respond to this posting with your phone number or call her rescue advocate at 917-543-6193 and leave a message with your callback# and e-mail address so we can send you an application.

*Pls note that this dog is located in the metropolitan NYC Area... Transport can be arranged provided certain criteria is met - also, there will be a reasonable adoption donation fee requested to cover shots, spay & microchip.

Tito

Name: Tito
Sex: Male
Age: 1.5 years
Breed: Hound/Boxer Mix
Weight: 50 lbs.
Neutered: Yes!
Available for Fostering: Yes!
Available for Adoption: Yes!

HELP!! This sweet, special boy is GOING DOWN TOMORROW!! Won't you commit to adopting/fostering so we can SAVE HIM?!

Tito is SOOO CUTE!! Look at those perky pointy ears, dreamy eyes and bright smile... how could anyone let this dog go? but police found him strolling down the street and that's how he ended up at the Shelter. Unfortnately no one has come to claim him but that means this little (41 lbs) M Amstaff/Terrier mix can be your special treasure.

According to volunteers at the shelter...he's very gentle and civil to other dogs and he loves to lean into you and begs to be petted and caressed. He also loves to play with toys but will them up on command. He will make a very loyal and loving companion.

Unfortunately, we don't know how he is with cats or small kids.. so older kids would be best unless you've had previous bully breed experience.

If you can SAVE TITO by ADOPTING/FOSTERING TODAY - please respond back to this post or call #917-543-6193 and leave your callback info!

* Pls note that this dog is located in the metropolitan NYC Area and transport can be arranged provided certain criteria is met* Also, there will be a reasonable adoption/donation fee requested to cover shots & microchip*

Hugo

Name: Hugo
Sex: Male
Age: 2 years
Breed: Rottweiler
Weight: 100+ lbs.
Neutered: Yes!
Available for Fostering: Yes!
Available for Adoption: Yes!

Hugo is an oh so handsome 2 year-old, male Rottweiler who was pulled off of death row at the NYC City shelter and waiting to go to a foster home today but the foster had a family emergency and now cannot take him... so we are URGENTLY looking for another foster or adopter for him as he is now again in danger of being put down because there is no space at the shelter!

Hugo was brought in as a stray and was very stressed to find himself in a kennel and was very untrustworthy of anyone at first and he did not do well on his behavior test, however several kennel workers say he's a good guy he just needs to get to know you and once he does he's your best buddy. Isn't that the case with most stressed and scared dogs?

He's not a small boy at 100 lbs and he's a bit underweight as well so he will probably gain 5-10 more lbs. Unfortunately, being stressed at the shelter has made him come down with kennel cough so it's best that he go to a home with no other dogs or where he can be quarantined as kennel cough is contagious to other dogs.

Unfortunately we don't know how he is with cats or kids so we would recommend he go to an adult-only home or with older kids.

If you are EXPERIENCED WITH ROTTIES and can open your HEART AND HOME to Hugo to give him a place to recover from his cold and a place to feel safe, pls respond to this post ASAP or call #917-543-6193 and leave your contact info.

*Please note this dog is located in the Metropolitan NYC Area ... transport can be arranged provided certain criteria is met*

If you'd like to help out Hugo by sponsoring him in the event that we need to board him to keep him off of death row, pls consider making a donation to In Our Hands Rescue - you can do so by going to this link http://inourhandsrescue.chipin.com/help-iohr-save-a-last-chance-shelter-dog

Liberty

Name: Liberty
Sex: Male
Age: 2 years
Breed: Pittie Mix
Weight: 45 lbs.
Neutered: Yes!
Available for Fostering: Yes!
Available for Adoption: Yes!
Please SET THIS BOY FREE!! - Tonight is last night on Earth!... This sweet boy deserves a second chance so pls SAVE HIM by committing to adopting/fostering him so we can pull him off the list!!

Liberty came in as a stray just days ago. He was so frightened when he first arrived, that we had to coax him out of his cage. But once he decided the Shelter was an okay place to be, he now looks forward to his strolls. And he loves to socialize with other dogs, too. What a friendly and gentle dog he is. Unfortunately we don't know how he is with cats.

He walks nicely on a leash and knows the command "sit." Now, Liberty was someone's pet (he's neutered), but who knows how long he was on the streets. He needs a bath. But even the mean streets did nothing to spoil his great behavior. What a sweetheart. He weighs 45 pounds and is around 2 years old.

If you can SAVE LIBERTY by ADOPTING/FOSTERING TODAY - please respond back to this post or call #917-543-6193 and leave your callback info!

Josiah

Name: Josiah
Sex: Male
Age: 1.5 years
Breed: Hound/Boxer Mix
Weight: 50 lbs.
Neutered: Yes!
Available for Fostering: Yes!
Available for Adoption: Yes!

Adoring, loving, 50 lb hound x needs adopter before foster dumps him!

I am constantly amazed at the resiliency of some special animals.

Josiah is a 1-1/2 year old hound mix-- mixed with what, I'm not sure-- Boxer maybe? He weighs about 50 lbs and is very energetic, as a young man should be! He is gentle, great with other dogs, all kinds of people and reportedly with cats. He has eyes that are open to his soul-- happy, joyful chestnut colored jewels that dance adoringly every time he looks at you. He is a gorgeous shade of red with black and white highlights, and he is such an incredibly proportioned animal-- and amazing creature.

From his happy and sometimes mischievous ways, you'd never know the past that he has only recently left behind. If you look closely, his back is covered in scars from puncture wounds, his ear has healed where a tear once was and vets think his leg may have once been broken and a bullet lodged in his rear end.

Does this bother Josiah one bit? ABSOLUTELY NOT. His gait is normal, even exuberant, for starters. He has the right and the clear privilege to LOVE life--- now that he's been afforded the chance to live it. Josiah needs a stable home, however, and has been in transition for quite some time. This boy, whose huge bear hugs are legendary, wants nothing more than a big bowl of food, a bed to lay (with you) on, and a firm but loving hand to scratch his chin...

We do not recommend homes with young children because Josiah is very active and needs more training, but a more loving and bright soul you will not find. He has done well with other dogs when introduced properly, but if caught by surprise, he can become overstimulated--HE NEEDS AN EXPERIENCED OWNER TO SOCIALIZE HIM. For the person who adopts him--we want this to be his furever home--FOREVER.

To meet him please email emily@emilygear.com. He must be placed AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!THIS IS A TRULY SPECIAL BOY.
